Beardstown and Southeastern were both 2-0 coming into our final match of the evening and this would be a good test for the Beardstown squad to see where they stand early in the season.  The Lady Tigers looked great early on in the match as they were executing well and you could start to see the concern from the Southeastern side.  But after the Lady Suns took a quick timeout the momentum started to change and Beardstown started to look out of sync and had to play catch up the rest of the night.  Southeastern wins this match 25-20, 25-17 to improve to 3-0 on the season, while Beardstown’s record goes to 2-1.  Kait Herter had 6 Assists and Jill Harris had 4 Assists and 4 Kills on the night for the Lady Tigers. The loss does take Beardstown out of Championship contention in this tournament but they still show a ton of potential and could really be a contender late in the season.

River Forest vs. Beardstown

Game 2 featured a David vs. Goliath type match-up, to the eye, as most of the River Forest team was smaller than the smallest player on the Beardstown squad.  But that did not stop River Forest as they put runners in scorers position every inning.  But the team from Beardstown continued their offensive ways and won the game by a score of 11-4.

For Beardstown, Olivia Dour (pronouced–DOOR) gets the win on the mound for Beardstown, while Megan Stock went 2-4 at the plate with 2 hard line shots to the right field fence.
For River Forest, Fionna Girardo takes the loss, while Maeve (pronounced MAYVE, rhymes with DAVE) went 2-2 at the plate with 2 runs scored and both hits were triples!

River Forest will play Clear Ridge tomorrow at 2 pm in the elimination game, while Peru will play Beardstown at 4pm in the state semi-finals.

Tonight’s game was expected to be a defensive battle between Macomb and Beardstown but that expectation went out of the window early in this ball game.  Both teams had hot bats tonight and their were more defensive mistakes than normal by both teams.  Honestly, we saw a true championship style ballgame between these two teams as they battled back and forth all night long.  But Macomb finally found a way to break the game open in the bottom of the 5th inning and held on for the 14-9 win.  Macomb’s Ben Higgins went 3-4 at the plate tonight with a single, 2 doubles, and had 2 RBI’s.  For Beardstown, Chase Piehler he pitched a great game on the mound and also went 2-2 at the plate with 2 singles and 2 runs scored.  Macomb will move on to the Sectional in Salem this weekend.

The first time Macomb and Beardstown squared off in this tournament, you could not have asked for a more exciting ballgame.  Tonight was round 2 between these teams and it lived up to full expectations.  There was a lot of strong defensive play as well as a lot of strong hits at the plate.  Macomb showed their bats early on in the game by getting 3 runs on 4 hits in the first inning.  Beardstown did not really answer back until they plated 3 runs in the top of the 5th inning as well to tie the game a 4-4.  Then, in the bottom of the 6th inning a walk, a error, and a ground out put runners at second and third with only one out.  Ben Higgins stepped up to the plate and on the third pitch he saw, sent it out into center field for the game winning single.  Macomb wins this one 5-4 and forces the “If” game with Beardstown on Monday night at 7 pm.  Ben Higgins was the player of the night for Macomb as he went 2-3 with the game winning single.  Beardstown’s Avery Quigley once again proved to be a very impressive defensive ballplayer as he took away multiple base hits from Macomb tonight.

Calhoun and Beardstown faced each other tonight in the 9/10 softball district championship game.  The game was tied at 1 with two outs in the bottom of the 3rd and Beardstown opened up a 5-1 lead and would never look back in this one as they won 10-2 for the District Championship.  Olivia Dour threw a no hitter tonight for Beardstown while Megan Stock went 2-2 at the plate with a Double, Triple, and 4 RBI’s.  Calhoun just could not time Dour’s pitches all night long and really gave it their all tonight.  Beardstown advances on to the Sectional in Taylorville on Friday night at 6pm.

Tonight’s game was expected to be a good match up between Brown County and Calhoun, and instead this game just ended up completely one sided.  Calhoun scored 8 runs in the bottom of the first and Brown County could just never catch up from that.  I think that Brown County was tired and really out of pitching and that just did not help when Calhoun had about all of their pitching available.  Jesse Oswald got the win on the mound for Calhoun with the final score favoring Calhoun 19-2.  Calhoun will now advance to tomorrow night’s championship game against Beardstown at 7 pm.
