Tonight’s matchup featured two of the top teams in the WIVC North Division with someone looking to pull into a tie with Triopia for first place.   Unity-Payson is a team that has been mentioned to be a big offensive powerhouse who loves getting in to shootouts and tonight’s game would start out that way.  Both teams would trade scores back and forth but at the end of the first half, Routt would be able to get a 25yd Field Goal from Eilering that would put the Rockets up 24-21 at the half.  Then in the second Half, Routt would start to take control of the game.  Unity-Payson committed 3 more turnovers in the second half with Nick Lonergan converting one into a Pick 6.  Routt added a couple of more scores and pulled away with the win 44-21.  Routt ended up with 392 yards gained on the night with no turnovers while Unity-Payson gained 364 yards with 3 fumbles and 2 interceptions.  Kyle Vandermaiden led the Mustangs 93 yards on 18 carries.  Nick Rossi led the Rockets with 184 yards on 21 carries.  We had a lot of unknowns heading into this game tonight, mainly how could Unity-Payson fare against the rest of the top of the WIVC North.  The Mustangs had a size advantage over Routt but they could not keep up with the speed of the Rockets.  Routt improves their record to 4-0 (2-0) and will have next week off as they were scheduled to play Virginia.  Unity-Payson falls to 3-1 (0-1) and will host Triopia in week 5.
