GBB:West Central @ Brown County

Posted: November 19, 2010 in Basketball, Broadcast Recap

West Central (1-0, 1-0 WIVC) traveled to Brown County (0-1, 0-1 WIVC) this evening as both teams tipped off their 2010-2011 girls basketball campaign. The first half of this game was a very sloppy but well fought battle between the two teams as we went into halftime with West Central on top 25-16. Brown County came out to start the second half with a lot more intensity but it was short lived as West Central also stepped their game up a notch and they push their lead to 20 points by the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter was very quiet and took us to a final score of 56-27 with West Central picking up their first win on the young season. For Brown County the leading scorer on the night would be Aimee Kerley with 9 points, following her would be Molly Babb and Melissa Kackley with 4 points each. For West Central, Tiffany King had an outstanding evening as she had 20 points and went 11 for 13 from the charity line. Dakota Nicholson also had 11 points for the Lady Cougars with three buckets from behind the arc.  Brown County went 12-22, 54%,  from the charity stripe while West Central went 19-31, 61%, from the free throw line.

West Central is definitely going to be a tough team to compete with this year and they can easily go 5 or 7 deep on their bench with little let down. The key to this team is to first attempt to work the ball inside to Tiffany King and if the defense collapses, kick it back out to one of the three girls standing out beyond the arc.  Brown County needs to learn how to better control the ball and handle high intensity and pressure.  They showed tonight that they have the potential to be a .500 record team but they are going to have to be able to play at a much faster pace than they would like.

One other comment I have though is that I understand that people are passionate about their teams but come on, it is the first game of the year and everyone is going to make dumb mistakes.  So the few fathers in attendance at the game tonight that just would not keep their mouths shut need to wake up and just relax.  It is the first week of the season and this one game is not going to make one bit of difference in your entire season!
